Unarmed Roving Reserve Officer

Position Type: On-Call, Hourly, Non-Exempt Security Professional

Location: Client Sites (Variable Assignments)

Overview

This role serves as an on-call, hourly security professional providing emergency and short-notice coverage. Unlike standard posts, it involves no fixed assignments. Officers are scheduled for specific reserve windows—designated periods where they must be available to accept assignments if contacted. This ensures uninterrupted client coverage without a dedicated patrol vehicle or full-time floating officer.

Core Responsibilities

  • Remain accessible by phone or text during assigned reserve windows.
  • Promptly respond to coverage requests and travel to designated client sites.
  • Perform all standard security officer duties on assignment, including:
    • Conducting patrols and access control.
    • Monitoring premises to prevent unauthorized activity.
    • Responding to incidents and completing accurate reports.
    • Delivering professional, courteous service.
  • Maintain communication with dispatch or site supervision.
  • Accurately complete timekeeping and activity documentation.
  • Adhere to all company policies and client requirements.

Note: Officers are not required to remain on company property during reserve windows, provided they can respond within the required timeframe when called.

Requirements

  • Valid California Guard Card is mandatory.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation are required.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly.
  • Prior experience in security, military, or law enforcement is preferred.

Response Time Requirement: Must be able to report to an assigned site within 45 to 60 minutes of being contacted.

Work Schedule

  • Reserve windows are generally scheduled in 2-hour blocks (e.g., 06:00–08:00).
  • Officers may accept or decline windows based on availability.
  • If no call is received during a reserve window, no work is performed and no hours are recorded.

Compensation Structure

  • Activation / Travel Pay: $17.50 per hour.
    • Applies from accepting a call until arrival on site (typically 30–60 minutes).
  • Active Duty Pay: $19.00 per hour.
    • Applies from arrival on site through the conclusion of the active shift.
  • Inactive Reserve Window: Unpaid.
    • Officers are free to use their time as they wish when not called.

Additional Details: All paid time qualifies as "hours worked" under California law. Overtime and double-time pay are provided in compliance with CA Labor Code. Wage statements will list activation and active-duty hours separately as required.

Employment Classification

  • Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt.
  • Coverage: Falls under Security-industry employees per California Wage Order 4 or 9.
  • Benefits Eligibility: Determined per company policy for part-time/on-call employees.
